A Month By the Lake: At a Lake Como resort, Miss Bentley, an attractive older guest, meets a handsome, well-to-do bachelor. But when he’s more interested in a beautiful young flirt, the mischievous Miss Bentley goes to outrageous lengths to reel in her catch.
The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain: During the days of World War I, a small Welsh town relies on its local mountain as a source of pride. When two English cartographers, Reginald Anson (Hugh Grant) and George Garrad (Ian McNeice), arrive to measure the mountain, they discover the landmark is 16 feet short of achieving the official “mountain” classification. Disheartened that their mountain has been deemed a hill, the townsfolk devise a plan to make up those 16 feet. Meanwhile, Anson falls for a local woman (Tara Fitzgerald).
Sweet Revenge: Businessman Henry Bell (Sam Neill) and society woman Karen Knightly (Helena Bonham Carter) meet on London’s Tower Bridge, where they are both contemplating suicide. After talking, they decide to go for coffee, and together they plot to take murderous revenge on each other’s nemeses — Bruce Tick (Steve Coogan), who took Bell’s job, and Imogen Staxton-Billing (Kristin Scott Thomas), who married Knightly’s ex-lover. Things become complicated, however, when Bell begins to fall for Imogen.
My Life So Far: Growing up in the post-World War I era, Fraser Pettigrew narrates the story of his decidedly oddball family and his infatuation with a French woman who introduces him to the intricacies of adult life.
